DESCRIPTION: APW - Waltham, P.S. Bartlett with pinned plates, pre-Civil War era, Model 1857, 11J, 18S, silver original A.T.&Co. (Appleton, Tracy & Co.) HC with eagle hallmark, white enamel dial, KWKS (key not included with this lot), diamond endstone, gilt mvt, s#8492. This movement is from a production run listed in Waltham factory records as having been made during February to March of 1858. This movement has the notable feature of its upper plate secured with pins rather than screws; this distinctive feature is characteristic of the earliest portion of P.S. Bartlett grade production and is found until approximately the 12500 serial range at which point this grade was finished with screwed plates from then on.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running after some prodding to start, overhaul recommended, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, some scattered scratches and fine scratches, some toning of plates; nearly flawless dial with a line of semi-circular hand rub to upper-right of seconds-register, minuscule flake to upper-left rim of center hole; excellent hands; case shows light wear, profuse fine to micro-fine scratches to cuvette, ding to lower-right edge of front, mild ding to lower-left perimeter of front, some scattered dings and mild dents to rear, mild bow depressions to upper portion of front and rear, cuvette with a protruding ding near key hole, reduced engine turning detail with some areas of full loss at rear shoulder; tight bow, push shows medium wear; good glass crystal.
